Maternity Suite
Hoveton Maternity Suite is attached to the Hoveton & Wroxham Medical Centre. The entrance is on the public's car-park end of the building.
There are 9 teams of community midwives employed by the Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital. Hoveton Maternity Suite is the base of one of those teams: we are the Broadland team of midwives. The team cares for pregnant women and new mothers & babies from the following local GP surgeries: Acle, Birchwood, Blofield, Brundall, Coltishall, Hoveton & Wroxham, Ludham, Paston, Stalham Green & Stalham Staithe. We conduct antenatal & postnatal clinics at the Maternity Suite. Please note that pregnant women from local surgeries other than Hoveton & Wroxham Medical Centre normally see their named midwife at their own surgery but can attend our Maternity Suite. Midwife appointments at other surgeries must be booked by phoning the surgery in question.
Our team also offers antenatal classes. These classes are for women with their birth partner. At the Maternity Suite we coordinate the antenatal classes held in other local venues by Broadland team midwives: Brundall & North Walsham. Subjects covered in the classes include: labour & birth, feeding a new baby and life with a new baby. On Tuesday mornings at the Maternity Suite our team's Maternity Care Assistant [MCA] holds a class on baby bathing and baby care [please note during our MCA's holidays these classes are cancelled]. On an ad hoc basis we also hold antenatal classes for those who have had babies before but feel they need a refresher. If you would like to attend classes leave your name, due date and contact phone number on our office answer-phone [01603-777928] and one of us will call to make the booking. It is best to book these classes well in advance so we can cater for demand.
Midwives care for mothers & babies normally up to a maximum of 28 days. Our care/support is focused on preventing health problems. The care we provide to new families is given in the home or at Hoveton Maternity Suite. Mothers & babies are discharged into the care of their surgery's health visitor between 10 and 28 days. If we detect health problems in mothers or babies midwives refer to the appropriate health care professional.
To book a clinic appointment at Hoveton Maternity Suite or any classes please phone the office phone number 01603-777928, leaving your name, a short message and your contact phone number. Any other non-urgent messages for Broadland team midwives can also be left on this same number. Please note messages may not be answered until the following working day.
If you wish to speak to a midwife urgently please phone Medicom on 01603-481222.
